Position Summary
- The U.S. Mission in Honduras is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Shipment Assistant in the General Services Office.
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as the point of contact on transportation rules and regulations, including diplomatic automobile laws.
- Directs the logistics of overall transportation activities for diplomatic personnel and official shipments, tracking International Through Government Bill of Lading (ITGBL) contracts.
- Advises USG personnel of their shipping entitlements and answers questions concerning local customs regulations and shipping matters.
- Facilitates all transportation steps for the importation and exportation of HHE, POV, GOV, pets, and official shipments with local transportation officials and ITGBL contractors.
- Plans and prepares customs clearances and deliveries of all inbound/outbound shipments for DOS and other USG agencies at post.
- Manages and monitors the DOS Integrated Logistics Management System (ILMS) Transportation Lite (T-Lite), ensuring prompt clearance of shipments through customs and host government agencies.
- Reviews and verifies vendor invoices, advises on discrepancies, and monitors ITGBL contractor performance to ensure service standards are met.
- Acts as Assistant Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for packing, shipping, and delivery contracts, preparing and monitoring bills of lading (BOL) and purchase requests.
- Audits vendor invoices for customs and shipping services and monitors contractor performance to ensure compliance with contract terms.
- Expedites entry and exit airport procedures during VIP visits and COM Travel, including immigration, health, and customs processes.
- Coordinates luggage transportation and works with Control Officers and embassy offices to support visitor and COM logistics.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Minimum four years of experience in the field of international customs, shipping, logistics, or transportation is required.
Education: Two years of University Studies in Customs Administration or Logistics, or in a related field such as business administration, industrial engineering, or management is required.
Language Skills:
English: Fluent (written/spoken, including the ability to translate) (May be tested)
Spanish: Fluent (written/spoken, including the ability to translate) (May be tested)
Technical Skills:
- Ability to draft detailed diplomatic communications and reports in English is required.
- Must be comfortable and able to deal with high-level US and local government contacts.
Other Requirements:
- Must have a valid, current license for light vehicles. (May be tested.)
- Must be able to obtain and hold a security certificate
